How Covid 19 is being tested?

hat is covid 19? Covid 19 is disease caused by corona virus Co here stands for Corona Vi stands for virus and last letter d is abbreviation of disease and the number 19 shows the year in which this was detected.

In the above paragraph DETECTED is the word I mentioned. This blog is all about how Covid 19 is being detected? There are 3 different types of tests.

MOLECULAR TEST (RT PCR Test)

This is a test which is used to detect active infection and the results are the most trusted ones. These days one or other person has given the sample and got tested by this method, sometimes you are asked to give the negative reports in your office, hospital while getting hospitalised rather than covid, etc.

The collector collects the mucus from your nose and throat using a personalised and a fresh swab. This test is often called as RT PCR test , short for polymerase chain reaction, the technique is used to detect the virus’s genetic material. The sample nasal mucus and throat mucus gets collected by taking the swab deep into the nasal cavity.

CT value more than 34.5 means not infected, CT here is cycle threshold . It is number of cycles or turns by sample in molecular test to release signal. This virus SARS-Co-V-2 is a RNA based virus and to detect it scientist needs RNA of the virus so, they convert RNA into DNA.



ANTIGEN TEST (Rapid test)

This is often known as rapid test because of it’s less time taking quality and the cost is also cheaper than PCR test. This is mostly done at the places which needs quick results such as airport, hospital to visit a doctor and etc. Method of sample collection same as RT PCR test.

The accuracy is being suspected by the doctors and the people too because it generally misses the active infection. Simply if detects you positive it is accurate and you can be sure that you have foreign invaders in your body but if it results as negative you can not be so sure.



HR CT Scan 

It is the last option and the most expensive test which gives you the most accurate result. How can scan be so accurate about virus ? This is the question you may get. The answer is because this virus infects your lungs and by having look at the condition of your lungs and the virus can be detected.

The main abnormalities observed in common and severe cases respectively were pure glass ground opacities and patchy consolation surrounded by GGOs. 

The scope and density score in common (4.5 and 5) ,severe (9.5 to 10)  and (19 to 21 ) is the critical one. More the 22 is most dangerous level and score is out of 25.
